Dr. Sylvia de Mars presented oral evidence in front of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee on 11th October 2017 as a response to the “land border between Northern Ireland and Ireland” inquiry.
” As a lawyer, I would find it very difficult to see how everything that would affect the border in Ireland could be dealt with as purely a withdrawal matter without discussing the future relationship. How we withdraw from the European Union fundamentally affects what needs to happen in order to ensure that the border in Ireland remains as it is now, which is the wish that all parties have expressed to date. ”
